SheBu Terrace is the remodelling of an existing Victorian family house in West London. Architectural work included a full width rear and side extension at GF level, a half width extension at 1F level and a new loft ensuite bedroom. Over 38 sqm of floor space was added to the home.
Mobile Studio also provided full architectural services as well as interior design ranging from specification to bespoke joinery and soft furnishings.
An essential part of the structural reconfiguration was the removal of the corridor at GF level in order to facilitate a series on interconnecting rooms. With the use of secret doors and full height curtains the family is in full control of the various configurations – open plan with lots of natural light or closed plan for more intimate family moments.
The 1F adopts a similar concept. Existing rooms are connected to create a large master suite comprising bedroom, wardrobe and generous bathroom. The loft extension on the top floor accommodates the service and utility room plus a new en-suite bedroom affording views across West London.
Interior spaces are subtle with the occasional injection of contrasting textures, materiality and playful colours. The overall styling complements the original character of the house and provides an insight into the personality of the owners, providing a backdrop to their artwork collection, memorabilia and rare books.
